My recycling journey

もったいな(mottainai)

a sense of regret for the act of wasting.

A word that I strongly feel not only because its part of my culture, but also because its a neccessity to achieve SDG. On here I have detailed my journey to contribute to recyling.

Plastic

Plastic is a material that is very hard to recycle. It is also a material that is very hard to avoid. I've been trying to find ways to recycle plastic waste.

Recycling ideas that I have or working on are:

  1. 3D printing filament
  2. Can cap
  3. Cardboard

Can Cap

Using materials like HDPE from milk jugs, or PLA from 3D print waste, I've been experimenting a way to make caps for cans. Just 3D printing it is succesfful but it is not scallable, so I decided to try to recycle plastic waste.

One of the simplest way is:

  1. Use circular or hexagon slabs
  2. Place said slabs ontop of any can
  3. Use heatgun with care so the slabs melt around the ridge of the cap

Cardboard

Currently also trying to recycle cardboard.

Recycling ideas that I have or working on are:

  1. Cardboard 3D catan set for the blind
  2. Daruma-san, a Japanese folk doll
  3. Engraved coasters
